Morning Routines: What’s Best?
Here I am working on my morning routine. Kind of seems overwhelming when you have to get up and get to work as soon as you can in this go go go society I believe in. So what is suggested for a morning routine?
Well first there is gratitude. Say three things you are grateful for every morning. Hmm…that one is pretty easy for me. I can even say that I am thankful for breathing or waking up. Gratitude shows the universe that you are happy with your life. It also gets you into the start of having a good day. Try to wake up thinking about what you’re grateful for instead of what you are not.
Next, is to do breathing exercises. I dislike this because I try to do all this stuff before I get up and I don’t need to wake up my husband by breathing weird so I usually do this later or honestly not at all because I forget. That is one thing I have to work on. So you take a deep breath in and then exhale saying “Ahhh”. Do this twice and then stretch! Now to me it does feel good, I just have to work on remembering to do it.
Finally, set an intention. Set an intention for the day. You can do this during meditation and then try to clear your mind during the meditation if you can. How you set an intention is you ask your soul, “What do I want to do today?” Then you wait to hear an answer. Your answer could come through as a word or phrase you hear or see, a picture, or even a visualization. Mine sometimes shows me what I want to do or sometimes I will hear a word, depends on the day. Meditate for about 5 minutes or loneger if you can.
After all this my morning cares do not stop. I still like to drink hot lemon or lime water to wake me up and get my digestive tract moving. I eat breakfast and at times when I don’t feel rushed, I do stretching exercises or take a walk outside.
Morning routines are important because they help ground us to start our day. Figuring out which morning routines work best for you is important. Some are harmful like waking up and freaking out about how much you hate your job or drinking tons of coffee and eating tons of sugary carbs so that when you get to your desk you feel tired and wired at the same time. Eww! Sounds disturbing just thinking about it.
I encourage you to start some new routines and try to ask yourself within what you would like to do. There are so many healthy and helpful morning routines. Try just one and once you master it add another one if you like. Just work on getting yourself in a happier place in the morning. And be patient. It all takes time and your spirit does not expect you to take on things quickly. It is patient and loving. Remember that!
